What happened

Microsoft's October 30 Azure Developer CLI recap highlights deployment previews across supported service hosts. The azd deploy --preview command describes resolved deployment targets before changes are made, with structured details available as JSON. The recap covers several releases shipped during October.

Other changes include stable extension interfaces for deployment previews, usage telemetry and current-principal lookup. A beta command removes stored environment values, while generated pipelines can install extensions required by custom infrastructure providers. Extension authors also face changes to environment and state APIs.

BELL RIVER perspective · Editorial analysis

What it means for business

Our assessment is that preview output gives developers another reviewable artifact before a release. Teams can practise comparing intended targets with resolved settings, then keep the result alongside deployment evidence and checks of the application after release.

  • Review resolved targets before deployment.
  • Check extension compatibility before upgrading.
  • Retain application checks after release.

A deployment preview describes operations; it does not establish that the resulting application works.
